Guidance for Parents:

Stay Informed: Familiarise yourself with the latest online safety guidance and resources provided by reputable organisations such as the NSPCC (see resources below).

Open Communication: Maintain regular discussions with your child about their online activities. Encourage them to speak openly about any concerns or uncomfortable experiences they may encounter online.

Set Boundaries: Establish clear rules regarding internet use at home, including appropraite websites, time spent online, and the sharing of personal information.

Utilise Parental Controls: Implement parent control tools and privacy settings on devices and platforms to help manage and monitor your child’s online intercations.

The UK government has introduced the Online Safety Act, which came into force in December 2024. This legislation requires social media companies to take action against illegal content and prioritise child protection. Platforms are mandated to assess and mitigate risks associated with illegal content.

By working together and staying informed, we can create a safe and supportive online environment for our children, enabling them to benefit from the digital world while minimising potential risks.
